Five Reasons to Eat Cherries

1. Eases aching joints
The rich red colour of cherries comes from anthocyanins which are antioxidants also found in grapes (and thus red wine). It can help with inflammation and can soothe muscle and joint pains.

2. Protects your colon

Cherries also contain quercetin, which has been found to help prevent damaging lesions, and can prevent tumours forming in the colon.

3. Controls cholesterol
All cherries are high in pectin which is a soluble fibre that helps to prevent heart disease by lowering “bad” cholesterol.

4. Helps your eyesight

Sour cherries contain around 20 times the amount of beta-carotene found in blueberries, and can help maintain eyesight and healthy skin.

5. Improve your sleep

Cherries are part of the stone fruit family which also includes apricots, peaches and plums, and are one of the few known sources of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that can help regulate your sleeping patterns.
